In
this task my team and I had made a short clip showing the entire understanding
of the key conventions of continuity editing. After that I will be writing a detailed
analysis that critically assesses on my use of the following key continuity
editing conventions:
- · Match on Action
- · Eye-line Match
- · Shot, Reverse shot
- · 180 degree rule
- · Point of view
This
is the continuity that my team and I made. The video is about two girls talking
about things. In the video we used different types of techniques of continue
editing.
The
first is Eye line match, in this technique we had to show what the character, which
is Mercy is looking at, through her eyes. In the video we had shown what Mercy
looking at something, in the next shot we see what she was looking at in the
last shot. The way, that my team and I applied the technique was ok, as you can
see when we show Mercy, she is not moving her head, and in the next shot we see
the camera moving left to right. This was the mistake we made and could have
done better to notice it, when we were record the short for the first time.
The
second is Match on Action; in this technique we had to show an action of the characters,
which are Abigail and Awana, are do something in the first shot and in the next
shot, you see them finishing what action they started. In the video we had
shown Abigail and Awana walking in to the door in the first shot and in the
second shot, we see them coming through the door and finishing the actions. The
way, that my team and I applied the technique was good, we made filmed them
working in, and then moved the camera to
the next position to film them coming out.
The
third is Shot, Reverse shot; in this technique we had to show character 1
talking to the character 2 in a close up of character 1, and in the next shot
we see the other character 2 talking to character 1 in a close up of character
2. In the video we see Awana talking,
than Abigail talking, than it goes to Awana again, this gives it a counties
affect to it. The way, that my team and I applied the technique was good, but
the way I edited the video is bad, I made the mistake of making the shot, Reverse
Shot too fast, so in the video we see Awana taking then straight to Abigail, then
back to Awana, in the future I will try to avoid mistakes like that when I am editing.
The
fourth is the 180-degree rule; in this technique we had to show characters
being on the right side when the camera moved around, so character A would be
on the left side and character B on the right, when the camera moved those
characters have to be on the right side as they were in the last shot. In the
video we see Awana on the left side and Abigail on the right side. The way,
that my team and I did the video was good until the end of the video we made a
mistake by barking the rule by having Awana on the right and Abigail on the
left.
